To supportseasoned SaaS leaders to stay ahead of the curve, we are launching the ScalingLab - a program that is bringing together industry experts, thought leaders, and successful founders to decode the ever-evolving landscape of enterprise software. ✨The registration is NOW open: https://aka.ms/scalinglab🎤Stay tuned for our speakers announcement!#AIforBusiness #StrategicAlliances #PartnerEcosystem #B2BSales #ScalingUp #AgileOrganization

Both are two of the most impressive and inspiring public SaaS CEOs — but their products and companies couldn’t be more different. Veeva sells eight-figure deals to a very small number of very sophisticated customers, while Twilio has a huge long tail and starts at $0.0085 a minute. 🙂But I wanted to pair them for several reasons. One was to get a sense of what the bar was to pull off a successful SaaS IPO these days (answer = oh man, very high). Another was to see examples of some relatively capital-efficient companies (Veeva raised less than $10m in VC money on the way to $6 billion in value!).#SaasHubSpothttps://lnkd.in/g5NJxTS8

Here is a framework on how to think about SaaS Metrics 💡 There are only 2 things that matter for any SaaS business:1. 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐭𝐡2. 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲Only the relative importance of these 2 metrics changes based on the stage of your business. When you are starting out, the only thing that matters is growth. But as you grow larger, profitability becomes the key.The way you measure growth and profitability also changes with the stage of your business. At the start, it’s all about getting traction and those initial customers. Then it’s about growing that customer count. Then the focus shifts to monetizing them. Revenue growth remains top of mind throughout. As for profitability, initially, it’s about managing your runway. Can you hit metrics to raise the next round without running out of cash? Then the focus shifts to growing efficiently i.e. unit economics. Can you acquire customers in a profitable fashion? Finally, it’s about becoming cash flow positive (and returning cash to shareholders). What also changes with each stage of your business is the time horizon. Earlier you are looking at month-on-month or quarter-on-quarter growth. Later on, it’s all about year-over-year or even multi-year growth. An example of a pre-product market fit stage company is a recent Y Combinator graduate. Examples of mature SaaS companies include Salesforce, Adobe, ServiceNow, and Atlassian.I know not every company will fit this framework. But still, I find it a good reference.#saas #growth #metrics

Create the marketing strategies and content that attract your ideal customers.

Read this if you're a SaaS startup that thinks, "We should expand beyond our core offering."Mary's criticism below of this approach was recently illustrated by the story of a SaaS startup whose investors demanded it expand its offerings. Because 🤑 .The strategy backfired. Instead of being great at one thing, they became average at a LOT of things. They lost money. They laid off staff. They went back to square one: Their niche.According to the CTO, they're profitable again by being great at one thing for their core customers. The lesson: No one wins at being average.
